So after years of being afraid to taste the water, I guess I have dipped a toe in it. And I like it. Sure, every thing's still unclear; I don't know how deep it is, I don't know what's in it. How they might bite my toe, ankle, and go on up to my head.
But so far, I like the water. I like how it makes me giddy and triggers the butterflies to, well, flutter.

Of course this happens to me
I have been known to my family as the one who tends to do stupid things unintentionally. Who messes up here and there due to own clumsiness. And most times, I do those things with Bangun.
So when we attended a wrong wedding reception yesterday, somehow it didn't come as a surprise for me. Or my family. And by family I also mean Sulis my house keeper and Ikun my ex-driver.
I woke up early at 10 - something I hardly do on a Saturday. Bangun had asked me to attend this wedding reception of his work colleague in Kuningan. So there we drove through Jakarta's hell-ish Saturday noon traffic, under the scorching midday sun.
When we arrived, there was no sign of the couple's name. We did, however, saw several people in blangkon and beskap walking here and there, so we parked the car and walked to the building.
When Bangun stopped to see the pre-wed pictures near the reception desk and froze, I know something was wrong. The couple in the frame looked unfamiliar to him.
Aaaand yes, the party was someone else's. Our party was not until 7 that night.
What's a dumbfounded couple to do when we suddenly had to kill six, seven hours until the real reception started? We went to PS and watched two movies in a row.
It turned out as a fun date. We bought tickets to Garuda di Dadaku and Ice Age 3D, we stuffed ourselves with hot dogs, popcorns, steaks, bakso, and ice cream, plus I got to shop a little.
In the end, we went back to the building later at night and mingled with the correct crowd. There was some jambo-spotting, but hey, a party is not a party without trashy bitches.... is it?

one year after
Hello.
This is one day late, but I wanna dedicate the post to my anniversary with The Jakarta Globe. I've worked with the newspaper for one year, starting July 1, 2008.
Despite everything, I have the best working environment here so far, compared to my previous offices. There are many newbies like I am, yet there are also the "seniors" who are more than happy to show us how this big chaotic world called media works.
I know the company's policies on about everything can stay next to my ass, and sometimes there are some people I just want to throw away out the window of Plaza Semanggi's 9th floor down to the busy Gatot Subroto highway, but all in all, I love (most) of my co-workers.
You guys are truly entertainers and you can make any exhausting day more bearable as the night falls. Even though I'm not sure how many of you do read this blog.
Cheers and beers to more years ahead with the best English newspaper in the country!
